"Celebrating 30 Years of God’s Faithfulness"
The year 2007 marks another significant milestone in the history of Calvary Independent Baptist Church of Delaware County (this is the “official” name of the church). The church was planned by Almighty God to fulfill the Great Commission of Matt. 28:18-20 and the Great Commandment of John 13:34, 35. The Lord conceived the beginning of the church in the heart of Pastor John Cartwright as he and his family were completing their fourth year in Lynchburg, Virginia and seeking God’s will for their future. In the summer of 1977 these missionary church planters packed all their worldly belongings on a 24 foot moving truck and headed out to what would ultimately become a lifetime of ministry in the county where they grew up.
For five years the church thrived in temporary facilities like the Prospect Lodge, the Folsom Seniors Center, and the Folcroft Vo-Tech School. Then in 1982 CIBC purchased the old Kedron Elementary School and converted it into a church building. At that time the church also began Calvary Baptist Academy which God used to train hundreds of young people for 23 years until He led them to close it in 2005.
Through the years God has brought incredible blessing to this church and only eternity will reveal the fruit that has abounded here and around the world through this ministry. Our church records indicate that 3,090 souls have walked the aisles of this church and received Jesus Christ as Saviour. We have also seen more than 5,897 believers come publicly for prayer, restoration, repentance, and/or revival. About 874 people have been baptized through the years; many of these believers have gone on to serve the Lord in other parts of the country and, of course, some of them are with the Lord in heaven. Thousands of others have been saved on missions trips, house-to-house evangelism, backyard Bible clubs, youth missions trips, prison ministry, weddings, funerals, sports outreaches, Christian school chapels, and on and on the list goes.
We rejoice at the magnificent grace God has shown us in all of these ministries. It is really God and God alone who deserves the glory; remember Rom. 11:36: “For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.” He is the Author and Finisher of our faith and Christ is the one who gave His lifeblood for the church. May God give us a fresh supply of the power of His Spirit daily so that we may look to the future with faith and expectation for the great things He will do until Jesus comes again for His bride!!!
